Hey natural hair money savers! That’s right… all products listed below are $10 and under w/ tax! I don’t know about you but I love saving money & I know if you are reading this then you desire to have fab hair without breaking the bank. Good news is it can easily be done & I will share with you my favorite effective natural hair products for a naturalista on a budget. I have learned that cheap doesn’t always equal incompetent products. I don’t think there is anything wrong with naturals who have those few pricey products (guilty!) however majority of my products are super affordable and I know a lot of people are on super saving money mode. As always these products are based upon my natural texture hair and what works for one may not work for another; although these products are so affordable if they happen to not work for you – bless someone else by passing the product along.  I hope by me doing my research it will help you decide which products to try!

1. Cantu Shea Butter Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream$5.99 sold at most stores

  • Key Ingredients – Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Glycerin, Aloe Vera Juice, Jojoba Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Avocado Oil, Argan Oil, Olive Oil, Mango Seed Butter, Neem Oil & Macadamia Seed Oil.
  • Best style used for – Wash n go’s or Twist Outs

  • Benefits – Gently cleanses hair & scalp. Spreads easily throughout hair.  Maintains moisture – adds more moisture and helps hair retain moisture until your next cleanse. Detangles hair with breeze & rinses super easily.  Helps promote a healthy environment for hair growth. Safe for color treated hair.
  • Key Ingredients – Tangerine, Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Saw Palmetto & Phtyosterols.
  • Best used for – Cleansing scalp & hair
  • Pros – Gently cleanses my scalp & hair without stripping any moisture and adding additional moisture.  I can detangle my hair with little to no effort.  Love the smell & a little goes a long ways. Super affordable.

3. Coconut Oil$5.99 sold at Trader Joe’s

  • Category – Oil 
  • Curly Girl Approved – Yes
  • Benefits – Helps with hair loss, penetrating & moisturizing oil, eliminates dandruff, strengthens hair, and reduces protein loss.
  • Key Ingredients – Coconut Oil
  • Best used for – Oil scalp & scalp massages.
  • Pros – Able to penetrate the hair shaft and provide intense moisture, heals the scalp of many scalp issues including dandruff, strengthens my hair & adds moisture. Light oil & a little goes a long ways.
  • Cons – Can leave your hair really oily if you use too much & solidifies when temperature is cold
  • My rating – 9.5 stars

4. Proclaim Olive Hot Oil Treatment.99 when on sale! – I always buy it on sale 😉

  • Category – Hot Oil Treatment

  • Benefits – Soft & moisturized hair, frizz buster, shine galore, helps with split ends, promotes growth, strengthens hair & prevents breakage, helps with dandruff and great sealant.
  • Key Ingredients – Olive Oil
  • Best used for – Hot oil treatment
  • Pros – Able to penetrate the hair shaft and provide intense moisture, helps with dandruff, smoothes and seals cuticles, soft and moisturized hair, strengthens, provides exceptional frizz free shine, and super cheap & convenient.

5. DIY water-aloe spray refresher – water(free) + aloe vera juice $5.99 sold at the Vitamin Shoppe 

  • Category – Moisturizing Hair Refresher Spray

  • Benefits – Moisturizes & strengthens hair while bringing life back to your hair.  Super soft hair & heals scalp.
  • Key Ingredients – Filtered water, aloe vera juice & olive oil 1 tsp(optional)
  • Best used for – Hair refresher for whenever needed
  • Pros – Easy to use, softens & moisturizes hair, strengthens hair, heals scalp, seals hair, great coating before styling & brings back life to hair when needed. 
  • Cons – None
  • My rating – 10 stars 

6. V05 Moisture Milks Strawberries and Cream Moisturizing Conditioner with Soy Milk Protein – .79 sold at most stores

  • Category –  Moisturizing Conditioner
  • Curly Girl Approved – Yes
  • Benefits – Conditions & moisturizes, softens & strengthens while revitalizing and renewing each strand of hair.
  • Key Ingredients – Vitamin E, vitamin H, Vitamin C, vitamin B5, Vitamin B3, Soymilk, and Strawberry Leaf Extract.
  • Best used for – Conditioner for detangling
  • Pros – Detangles my tight curls & coils with such ease, leaves my hair super soft, strengthens my hair, and leaves my hair really moisturized. Amazing price + very effective product.
  • Cons – Can leave my hair frizzier than normal
  • My rating – 9 stars
I hope to inspire you that effective natural hair care doesn’t have to be wallet stealing expensive as there are many products out there that will give you awesome results.  Take time to do your research, shop and try!  Honestly that is the only way you will know what works for you and doesn’t.
