Calling All Naturals w/ Curls, Coils & Kinks
Any natural knows when you get a freebie and one you can actually use it’s like payday! I received this product sample free in a recent order I placed online. I am familiar with this line like so many others and have yet to try anything from this line until now. I can barely keep up with the staple hair companies I always manage to keep in my stash not to mention all the other product lines out there that I have yet to give a try. One thing I have learned is that one way or another if it’s meant it will find its way to you. Happy and eager pretty much touches on the feeling how I can’t wait to see how well this product will get along with her ( yes- my curls). You guys know she can be fickle! Hopefully she will behave today and will have some beautiful results to give me. I look forward to sharing my experience with the Curls Lavish Curls Moisturizer! Remember as always all my reviews are based upon my personal experience with a product on my hair texture and is never meant to bash any product or company. What works for one may or may not work for another… what would be the verdict on this product I wondered?
Now I have had pretty good success with most of the products I have tried so far this year. I can contribute that to lots of research and just learning a lot about what my hair likes and doesn’t. If you aren’t there yet don’t fret as it will come with time and practice. You have to play in your hair to see what it best plays with. This particular product I will be reviewing today is the Curls Lavish Curls Moisturizer. You know I am all about that moisture. I am using a sample size bottle that is 2 fl. oz. however this product retails for about $10.99 for a 8 fl. oz. bottle at Target. This product has to be not like any I have ever tried before as a natural as it is a liquid. This product was designed as a 2nd day refresher/daily leave -in and contains no sulfates, silicones, parabens, mineral oil, or petrolatum oils! This product claims if you are looking for a daily moisturizer to refresh, rehydrate, and reactivate your dry tresses then you found it right here. I am also pretty impressed with the unique blend of ingredients as #2 is Glycerin which my hair loves. I must admit I am wondering how well a liquid moisturizer will stand against my rich butter moisturizers I have managed to collect in my arsenal. Then again water is a liquid and the first ingredient needed for proper moisture with our curls. So many questions and I have an answer down below!
So due to the fact this is designed for 2nd day hair I will not be using this product on wash day. I plan to use this product as a moisturizer as apart of LOC Method. This will serve as my (L) or leave in for the day. I am starting on damp hair as I re-wet my hair my with DIY refresher spray. This product can be used on dry and wet hair. Since I have low porosity hair my hair styles/sets and retains moisture better on damp or wet hair. The wetter the better for me. As I open the bottle the smell is quite apparent and reminded me of tropical fruit as there are many fruit extracts listed in the ingredient section. It’s a nice sweet smell that I actually liked. As I pour a small amount to my palms the texture is very watery and oily! You can definitely feel the oils and I started to wonder “Oh Lord is the going to work”? (lol) As I applied the product to the first section I wasn’t actually seeing or thought much was happening, lol! It kind of felt like a oily-watery mixture was just slathered onto my hair. With my hair you have to thoroughly work products in to the strands for absorption to take place. So I did just that and just continued that process all over to each section applying on top of this product my (O) oil and my (C) styling cream. I just wasn’t instantly impressed. Now, don’t get me wrong the product didn’t harm or affect the other 2 products I just didn’t know what to think. Perhaps this product is just not what I am used to. I also noticed the Curls Moisturizer didn’t have much slip at all not something I could use as a detangler…then again to be fair it wasn’t listed that it would be. Still doesn’t change the fact my hair likes what it likes. Did she like this product? My answer may shock you especially from my initial review.
FINAL THOUGHTS: YES, my hair loved this product! Let me explain, lol! So I normally use a rich butter based moisturizer and this one is a liquid based moisturizer. I think I began to judge too quickly. I will admit this product doesn’t have enough slip for me then again I am not using it for detangling purposes. I saw the real true results when my hair started to dry. Unlike all my other products that gave me that instant gratification that I am used to this product did not. Why did it not matter in the end? My results that’s why. This product in the end left my hair super moisturized, super defined, frizz-free, shiny and to my surprise this product gave me some nice hold! A lot of my products will give me a soft hold but this one gave my hair a medium hold. What a nice surprise! There was no crunch involved just pure hold at its finest. I was not left with a greasy or oily WNG either which is always a huge plus. Not to mention I only used a little bit of my 2 fl. oz bottle with tons of applications left in the future. I will continue to play around with this product but as of now I got a crush you guys! What a clever way to demonstrate that great things aren’t always instant… as greatness can take time. I would highly recommend this product to those who are looking for a new type of moisturizer that’s a lightweight liquid and packs a heavy moisturizing punch! I always have so much fun sharing my story with my readers. Thank you for flipping through the pages of my journey… as my journey continues. Until the next page… chow! ♥
