That’s right I bought it! However, I only paid $4.99 for this super expensive co-wash at Ulta. I am not sure if they are discontinuing the Shea Moisture Professional Line as I have seen all their professional line products on clearance at Ulta & Sally Beauty Supply. I have always been very curious how well this line stacked up to the non-professional line by Shea Moisture that has made them the leaders in the beauty industry. I have watched and read many mixed reviews regarding this line in general. Although it was never on my agenda to snag me up any product from this line due to price; clearance I can do! As always, all of my reviews are based upon my personal experience with my tight curls and are completely honest without any bashing. Did this co-wash make the cut?

I am going to be honest I didn’t really have high hopes for this co-wash as it was on clearance and well… that can be a not so good sign. However, I love co-washing my hair and that price spoke to me, lol! If you aren’t familiar with this co-wash here are the stats: The Gentle Curl-Cleansing Co-wash by SM is housed in a 16 fl. oz. tall bottle with a pump and retails for $19.99 although I paid $4.99. This co-wash was designed for gentle cleansing, moisture retention and frizz control. As always, this product was formulated without any harsh ingredients. If you hair loves Agave Nectar & Black Seed Oil then this product might work well with you hair. This product claims it will define and lengthen even the tightest (that’s me) curls to reduce shrinkage while helping block humidity. This detergent free, low lather conditioning cleanser removes impurities without stripping hair of natural oils. Lightweight moisturizers soften and enhance curls, controlling frizz and adding shine in one step. This is wonderful news especially if it lives up its claims! Did it?

It’s wash day and I am so glad as my hair was ready for it. I reached for the co-wash and looked over the directions and began to pump out some product. First of all, let me say I love the fact this product was designed with a pump makes it so much easier especially while in the shower. This co-wash easily shot out of the bottle into my hand and the feel of it was very soap like and on the thinner side. The smell was very nice and I just couldn’t put my finger on the best way to describe it. It’s a light airy clean soap smell which I rather enjoyed. I began applying it all over ensuring my scalp was getting cleaned. I had to use a lot of this as it was rather watery and I just kept adding as much as I needed until I was satisfied. The feel of it on my hair was very pleasant and although it didn’t have a lot of slip I was able to lightly finger detangle my hair. After I got enough to work with on my scalp I noticed it did create a low lather which I didn’t mind. Once I was done cleaning my scalp I rinsed it out all rather easily and proceeded to my next step. So, was this co-wash any better than all the other less expensive co-washes my hair grown to love?

FINAL THOUGHTS: No! Let me say that I have never tried a co-wash that my hair has hated. However, I have tried some that work better than this one considering the price. This co-wash wasn’t bad at all but I did notice a few things. This co-wash didn’t have enough slip for me and my tight curls. Also, I did notice as a result of that it took longer to detangle my hair. I didn’t have huge tangles or knots just took longer than normal. This co-wash didn’t strip my hair at all but my hair didn’t feel super soft either after it was rinsed out. I did notice more elongation after rinsing out this product although my hair is always tightly curled, lol! My scalp was clean, moisturized and my frizz did appear to be under control. So, would I repurchase? Probably not, as I don’t know if this line will even be available any longer. I didn’t hate it but I rather use a co-wash that detangles a lit bit better. If you have a looser curl pattern or one that is easier to detangle this may be perfect for you. This co-wash did do a great job on almost everything else, even gave me much needed shine! The co-washes I use work perfectly for me and are a fraction of the price. I do realize this is a larger bottle almost double than normal co-washes but that original price tag still gets me every time, lol! Today was a great wash day and I enjoyed finally getting to try out this co-wash! I will continue to use this from time to time until it’s all gone… you know I don’t like wasting good product. I hope I have inspired you to enjoy your wash day and try to have fun with it as it is a vital day in a naturals journey! What do you guys think overall about this co-wash or any product from the Shea Moisture Professional Line that you have tried? Thank you for flipping through the pages of my journey…until the next page – chow!♥
